All our alarms,
the Jaguar, Hawk and Vulcan are low current drain and capable of
stand alone battery power if mains is not available. This makes them
ideal for rural secluded locations.
Mains
operation is straight forward. Plug in and sit back. All systems
have internal back-up power that will cover mains or battery interruptions for
up to 24 hours.
Battery
operation will require the purchase of a leisure battery rated at
110 amps or above. These are readily available from caravan or boat
supplies and cost around £75. They can last up to 2
months between charges. The most cost effective solution is one
leisure battery for everyday use and one cheap gel battery (from
Maplin) for when you need to re-charge the main one. Although we
recommend a leisure battery, in reality, a normal & cheap car one
will suffice.
Solar power is free, the systems are pretty well
maintenance free, the prices are coming down and it extends battery
life.
A simple solar powered system rated at 20 watts can be purchased for around £85.
See our link to
SunshineSolar but note
that you may have to have a "charge controller" depending
upon which
panel you use and will cost about £15.00. Alternatively a cheap solar panel of around £20
sometimes will suffice to keep the battery topped up.
Leisure
batteries are recommended because they can cope with the discharge/charge
rates far better than a normal car battery, but car batteries can be
used if required. Two leisure batteries in
parallel will give extended life.
